How to make random pairs
- Enter one name per line. Duplicate names are ignored.
- Set the group size: 2 for pairs, 3 or more for small groups.
- Press Generate pairs. Press again for a new random arrangement.
What happens with an odd number?
If one person would be left alone, they join the last group, making one group of three instead of a single person on their own. With larger group sizes, the last group may be smaller than the rest.
Ideas
- Pair people up for a dinner club or to pick restaurants for each other.
- Assign partners in class, workshops or sports drills.
- Organise a gift exchange or coffee chats at work.
Frequently asked questions
Is the shuffle fair?
Yes. It uses a Fisher–Yates shuffle with your browser's cryptographic random numbers, so every arrangement is equally likely.
Are the names sent anywhere?
No. Names stay in your browser; they are saved locally so you don't have to retype them.
